10 Months

I can remember when it was the other way around and we were celebrating 2 months and had 10 to go :)
Some things were really different back then and you are a totally different little girl now, but other things haven't changed so much…

For example you are still sleeping swaddled. I REALLY thought by like 6 months it would be over, but you weren't ready so we kept doing it. Then by 8 months I was SURE it would be finished, but nope, you still wanted to be swaddled. Now at 10 months, I just have no idea how we are ever going to get you to stop! I have talked with several friends who told me stories of swaddling their children until after 1, so I feel a little better. I guess it just comes down to my assumptions about what it best for you and you reminding me who is really in charge ;)
That's probably the only thing that is really the same from 2 months…
You are such a different little girl (well I guess that's the same too, you are really little!).

You are meeting all your gross and fine motor skills: using an isolated finger and thumb grasp to pick up small objects, crawling, and cruising. You are also eating sooo well. We have continued to introduce new foods such as chicken and pasta and you love it all! You are so very alert and aware of new things and love to explore. You have started going through my kitchen cabinets, you know how to pull drawers open or stand to the side to open a door. You LOVE to take things out or dump containers. You will even stand on your toes to look into something. You enjoy new people and places and will not fall asleep if we have guests or are out and about.

And your daddy and I love you so much, BUT, you are not making a consonant-vowel sound. I so want to hear 'mama' it is driving me nuts! Also little girl since I am an Early Intervention Service Coordinator I have access to way too much information on development. I have spoke with speech therapists and tried all the suggestions to get you to talk, but you won't! So we are going for a formal hearing screening on March 7, 2012 and then you are getting a developmental evaluation on March 8, 2012. I am really not concerned that you have any hearing loss, but I want to make sure to rule that out, but unless you get speaking in the next two weeks you do have a developmental delay. So what does that mean? Well, it means you need to talk!! Since you don’t want to take me serious, I am going to get one of my very nice speech therapist friends to come and help you…I am sure once you start you will not stop and then I can blog about needing earplugs :)
(I really like my job and feel that Early Intervention is one of the BEST programs the government offers, if you have any questions about it, let me know.)
What else…
(that's Rose's thumb on the camera and this is her right before a good scream because I would not hand over the camera...)
We are starting to learn the difference between your 'ahh something awful is happening and I need my mommy right now' cry and your 'hey I just don't like something and want you to come right away and entertain me' cry… we try and let you work out the second one a little bit before we scoop you up. Usually after about 15 seconds you just move on to something else and your world is all happy :)  There are some things we just can't do anything about…like car rides or getting your diaper changed. I think now that you are more mobile you just don't like being laid down or strapped in, but there is not much we can do about those two things, so just hang in there with us, we are really doing our best!

Oh, that's another thing that has not changed...you have NO teeth! Daddy, Grandma, and Nana {think} one is coming, but I'm not holding my breath ;)
Here are two other really good things that have not changed: you continue to only have cloth diapers on your cute little tush and you are still getting only breast milk (although I am counting down the days until I am done pumping!).

So two more months to go until the BIG 1...Rose and I are busy shopping on Etsy for her super cute party!

Weekend Wrap-Up

So this is how Rose decided to spend her snowy weekend...

Play blocks with daddy...really daddy does more of the play....
And Rose does the knocking down :)

Then time to get a drink and refuel for the next activity.

Rose loves her push toys and can even push them by herself (but we are VERY close behind)

Ah, then on to another favorite Rose activity, empty the cabinets :)

Sunday you dressed up so cute for church and lunch with Papa and Nana.

Rose also decided to {finally} crawl FORWARD...she has been a pro at reverse for awhile now; have fun this week grandma and nana :)

GO EAGLES

So the Eagles might not have made it to the Super Bowl tonight, but that didn't stop Rose from showing her Eagle pride :)

That's the last straw!!

Ok, well not really, but I thought it was a cute way to announce that Rose is now drinking from a straw :) So we tried sippie cupes since about 7 months and Rose was really not into them at all. I work with a lot of speech and occupational therapists who will tell you NOT to even offer a child a sippie cup because they are nothing more than a glorified bottle and do not promote oral motor development for eating and speech. Anyway, Rose just never seemed to like the ones we tried, so it was onto the straw. We had offered it to her a bit ago, but she didn't seem into that, so we were going to wait until around 10 month to try it again. BUT grandma tried one on Monday and Rose loved it!!
